LEASING VS FINANCING: WHICH IS BETTER FOR YOU?
When it comes to getting behind the wheel of your preferred ride, there are a few different roads you can go down—leasing or financing. Both offer amazing benefits, but they’re also very different from each other. Let’s break them down:
Leasing
This is a short-term rental agreement between you and a dealership in which you can drive one of the latest models available up to a certain number of miles. Leases generally last two to three years, but there are some exceptions.
Leasing is great for those who want to continually drive new models every couple of years. In some cases, it can be less expensive than financing because you’re not locked into a long-term deal. This means your monthly payment should be less, as well as your down payment, if you put one down. You may also not be responsible for much, if any, maintenance.
Though the expectation with a lease is that you’ll return it to the dealership once the agreement ends, you can finance or purchase it at any time, assuming you’re comfortable driving it for the long haul. This can be advantageous for many reasons, especially if you’ve gone over your mileage limit.
Financing
Financing is a long-term commitment in which you’ll go through the entire payment cycle. After you finish making payments, you’ll own the car outright, unless you trade it in beforehand. The length of finance plans will vary, which are great for those who know right away that the car they’re going to drive is one they want to keep for years to come.
This method allows you to build equity in the car, which will help keep its resale value high when/if you decide to sell it. Once the car is paid off, your auto insurance rates should also be much lower.
Unlike leasing, financing a car means you won’t be beholden to a mileage limit. So, as soon as you get behind the wheel, you can drive as far as you want without worry!
If you want, you can also buy your car outright, which means you wouldn’t have any kind of payment plan and you’d own the car immediately. In any case, our finance team is happy to walk you through the various processes and help you determine which one is best for you.
