Kia Sportage Maintenance Schedule
To help Easton, Allentown, and Quakertown drivers, we’ve put together this 2021 Kia Sportage maintenance schedule. Follow the service intervals in this guide, and your Kia SUV will perform at its best for miles and miles to come.
Every Sportage needs maintenance from time to time. Always follow the service schedule for your specific make and model—it’s the best guarantee of quality! If you have any questions, please reach out to our certified auto technicians.
12 Months or 6,000 Miles
At 12 months or 6,000 miles—whichever interval comes first—you should pull into a Kia service center for your first Sportage maintenance visit. At this point, have the engine oil and filter replaced.
Replace the climate control air filter as well. Several systems should also be inspected, including the brakes, battery, exhaust pipe, and muffler.
24 Months or 12,000 Miles
At 24 months or 12,000 miles, you’ll want to repeat all the services from the initial interval. Change the oil, inspect the brakes, and so forth.
A few additional items will need to be inspected at this interval, including the fuel tank air filter and vapor hose, fuel filler cap, and fuel tank. The air cleaner filter and parking brake should be inspected as well.
48 Months or 24,000 Miles
You should return at 36 months or 18,000 miles for your 12-month/6,000-mile services again. However, you won’t need new maintenance items for your Kia Sportage until 48 months or 24,000 miles.
At this interval, replace the air cleaner filter if you haven’t already. Many items will need to be inspected for the first time, including:
- Cooling system
- Rear differential oil (AWD)
- Transfer case oil (AWD)
- Fuel lines, hoses, and connections
Spark Plug Service Interval
Under normal operating conditions, spark plugs should be replaced every 45,000 miles or 36 months. The spark plugs provide the “spark” that ignites the engine, so you’ll want to be sure you have a working set for a reliable engine start.
Valve Clearance Interval
Like the spark plugs, valve clearance has a specific service interval. Inspect every 60,000 miles or 72 months to keep your Kia Sportage well maintained. Your auto technician may need to adjust the clearances, especially if the cylinder head has been removed.
At Least Monthly, Do These Things
There are some quick checks you can perform at home between your service visits. These inspections will help ensure your Kia Sportage continues to perform well in between its regularly scheduled maintenance.
- Check the coolant level in the engine coolant reservoir
- Check the inflation pressures of all tires for tires that are worn, show uneven wear, or are damaged
- Check for loose wheel lug nuts
