Kia Forte IIHS Ratings: “Good” on 6 Crash Tests
The Kia Forte has earned excellent safety scores from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, or IIHS. In fact, the model was named a 2020 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK just last year. With a design that carried over, it’s no surprise the 2021 Forte continues a tradition of excellence.
This year, the Forte earned a perfect rating of “Good” on all six crash tests performed by the IIHS. Those tests include:
- Small overlap front (driver and passenger side)
- Moderate overlap front
- Side
- Roof strength
- Head restraints and seats
Plus, the LED headlamps equipped in the Forte GT earned a “Good” rating for forward visibility. The Kia Forte is well fortified in the event of an accident, but it also scores well in crash avoidance and mitigation.
Kia Forte NHTSA Ratings: 4-Star Safety Rating
The Kia Forte comes so close to perfect! The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, or NHTSA, gave this model a 4-Star Safety Rating.
Overall, the Forte earned a perfect 5-Star Safety Rating on its side crash test as well as four stars each on the frontal crash and rollover tests. These results track with what the model has earned in recent years.
The NHTSA recommends some driver-assistance technology for the Forte. We’ll review all those features and more in the next section.
Safety With Kia DRIVE WiSE in the Forte
The best safety is accident prevention, and the 2021 Forte lends you a hand with Kia DRIVE WiSE. This suite of driver-assistance comes standard on every trim level.
No matter which Forte you drive, safety technology will include:
- Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA)
- Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
- Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
- Lane Keeping Assist-Line (LKA-L)
- Driver Attention Warning (DAW)
Of course, higher trims add more accident prevention and mitigation technologies to the suite. Available Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW) uses a radar-based detection system and sends out visual and auditory signals to let you know of vehicles in your blind spots.
